Webelos 2 trip to Annapolis to visit Sen. Jeff Waldstreicher and the Naval Academy

Instead of a regular January's den meeting, we're planning a trip to Annapolis to visit State Senator Jeff Waldstreicher and also take tour the Naval Academy.  This trip will be on Monday January 27th (no school that day).

There is a $10/adult fee for visiting the Naval Academy (the pack is paying for the scouts). I'll have to pay ahead of time, so I'll get money back from you on the trip.   At this time, this trip is only open to Webelos 2 scouts and their parents/guardians.

    The itineary is as follows:

    • Leave from my house (9913 E Bexhill Dr) at 8:30a (can't meet at a school since teachers will be there for their professional day)
    • 10:00a morning tour of the Naval Academy (1hr 15 minutes).  ADULTS NEED TO HAVE A US GOVERNMENT PHOTO ID.  $10/per adult.
    • Stop at the gift shop (If you want, make sure your scout has a little spending money for this)
    • Lunch at the Naval Academy Dry Dock restaurant (cost not included).  You must signup for food orders in advance via the Signup Genius RSVP below and pay me on the day of.
    • If time, walk around Annapolis and discuss the functions of state government.
    • 2p tour of the State House
    • 3:30p meeting with Senator Jeff Waldstreicher
    • Head home (home by 5:30p?)

You need to RSVP for this event, including signing up for what you want for lunch.   Please see the email I send with subject, "Mon 1/27 trip to Annapolis to visit Sen. Jeff Waldstreicher and the Naval Academy" for signup instructions.

We need a minimum of 16 people for this trip.   If we don't get enough signups in a week or two, I'll open it to siblings and Webelos 1's, so don't wait to long!  Also, we'll need to finalize the number of attendees a week or two before, after that we won't be able to accept signups.

Please have scouts wear their class A uniforms, as appropriate for public events (especially at the Naval Academy).   Also, at some points, we'll be walking around outside.  Please make sure your scout is dressed appropriately for cold weather.

Finally, please have your scout read the following article talking about the functions of state vs federal/local government (and/or read it yourself and discuss it with your scout):

Then please have your scout think about questions they would like to ask of Senator Jeff Waldstreicher (maybe see his Issues web page).

Looking forward to an exciting and interesting trip
