Pack Hike - Sugarloaf!
Hike up Sugarloaf Mountain!
Now that the feasting is done, its time to get out and get some exercise. Our traditional post-Thanksgiving hike will again be at Sugarloaf Mountain, at 1 pm this Sunday, November 25th. This is a fantastic, though challenging hike. That means no strollers, and if you're planning on bringing young'ns or pets, this may not be the hike for that. (I don't know about the rules at the mountain for pets, but be aware that there are some very very steep parts of this hike, as much climb as walk.
The address is 7901 Comus Road, Dickerson, MD 20842.
Enter the park at the "five-way" intersection where Comus Rd intersects Sugarloaf Mountain Road, at the Entrance Sign on the map. We will park in the WEST VIEW, which is the SECOND major parking area you come to on the mountain (bear right at the Sugarloaf Mountain Drive "Y") (Google map). We will depart the West-View parking area by heading down-hill to connect with the Blue/White trail and hike clockwise around the mountain following the White trail to East View. We will then hike the Orange Trail to the Summit, and return to the parking area via the Green Trail/steps.
The weather should be mostly sunny, with a high temperature in the 50s. This is one of our most "off-road" hikes. So again, please don't bring a stroller or a toddler who might have difficulty keeping up (and some parts of the trail are too difficult to carry someone, so consider yourself warned.)
Please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early so we will be ready to depart at 1 pm. And keep in mind that there will be Thanksgiving traffic, so give yourself plenty of time.
